Edwin Delarosa brought Daniel Benson by my studio a few months back and he really liked the ramp paintings that I had done for the Dizz Hicks project at The Queens Museum. He sent me an email about making a painting for the cover of the new Albion and I was fucking honored to do it. I think The Albion is a great magazine. I decided making a real ramp would be much more raw, and Dan was into it. So keeping with that premise I started to steal all the anti biking signs I could find. I was determined to take these signifiers of negativity and turn them into something positive. I imagine if ramps started getting chained all over NYC, that the landscape would be altered dramatically and people might reconsider posting their funky little anti biking signs. It was a simple exercise of turning lemons into lemonade.
